Shiner Wrap Flies
My favorite flies ( A How-To video is in progress for this fly design)
The Shiner Wrap Flies are my favorite flies, and they were a result of my unrelenting search for a fly to use on my flyrod that could basicly do the same job that the Banjo Minnow does for my spinning rod fishing. It is fished in the same style as the Banjo Minnow with the hook up in front rather than in the body itself ( see the article on The Lip Hook Fly System ). I often use the same hooks that I designed for the Banjo Minnow for which I and my partner in that project received a utility patent. I am no longer associated with the Banjo Minnow or the company in which I served as vice president in any way since selling out my shares of the company in 1996. I no longer receive any financial awards from the lure or the company, but I must admit that it is the most dynamic and versatile lure that I have ever used, and it was a natural progression for me to develop a flyrod version.

The dark spot behind the gills is actually a two lead shot in rattle. When the shiner moves, you can hear the clicking and see the shot through the translucent body moving very much like a beating heart.
You can make these baitfish look much larger or smaller by the choice of tail materials.
You can stick with the shiny scale patterns of shiners and shad or use a white background and marking pens to draw detailed patterns and colors.
