The Flyrod Frog

This is a much older version of the Fly rod FROG, but a much younger Capt Ken.

I started making the Fly rod FROGs in 1977. It was first fished on Union Lake in southern New Jersey,  where it nailed a 7.5 lb'er on the first try.

The FROG above was designed & fished in the 1980's in the Ocala national Forest in central Florida.

It was a much differently made FROG back then but it caught plenty of big bass for me on the fly rod.

The FROG above was designed & fished in the 1990's.

The key to fishing the Fly Rod FROG was to use a Bass Bug Taper fly line with a 10 foot sinking tip. But, you had to cut 5 foot off of the 10 foot sinking tip to help turn over the big FROG at the end of the cast. Eventually, I designed a short 21 foot "FROG Shooting Taper" which allowed me to shoot the big FROGs long distances without back casting more than once or twice before shooting the FROG out there with ease. The extreme weight forward taper and the narrow running line allowed the big wind resistant offering to be cast seemingly impossible distances. It was a very helpful system for casting many other out-sized offerings that I endeavored to fish on a fly rod.
